Dear Parents:
As all of us are aware, Governor Abbott has reopened the Texas economy. Effective next Wednesday, March 10th, the mask mandate that was previously in effect statewide has been removed and all businesses are free (but not required) to open to 100% capacity. It should be noted that most health officials, including the CDC, have stated that mask wearing should continue until the vaccination process nationwide has had more time to have an effect on the spread of the virus. We don’t wish to get in the middle of political debate. However, we feel that our current operating procedures have succeeded in allowing us to stay open and to operate safely and with less risk for our children and staff members. Since what we have been doing for almost a year has been successful, we don’t see the need to change at this time. We want to protect everyone — children and extended family members, staff and extended members — and we feel that we should stay the course for the time being and see how things go. We will keep you updated regularly as to any changes that we feel need to be made. Thank you for your continued support of our school.

Dear Parents:
We hope this note finds you safe and without problems due to the storm last week. Glen Oaks has no water at this time. Glen Oaks has a main water line broken which our plumber is confident will be repaired by the end of the day on Monday. We are hopeful that this main water line is the only one affected by the freeze. Glen Oaks will not be open on Monday, but we CAN accept any Glen Oaks children at our sister school, Glenwood Day School. We will have our teachers report to Glenwood tomorrow so that the children can be with their teachers, just in a different place! We will pick up our school age children from school and will bring them to Glenwood for pick up by our parents. Please reply to the group text thread and let us know if your child will be at Glenwood so that we will know who to expect tomorrow. We need to know this for purposes of food planning and preparation and bus service to the area schools. The Glenwood address is 2446 Apollo Road, Garland, Texas. The last 12 months have been a year to remember!!!
December 13, 2020
Dear Parents:
We want to inform you that one of our administrative staff has tested positive for COVID-19. This staff member received the test results today, Sunday, December 13th. Due to the administrative nature of the position and our reading of the CDC guidelines we do not feel that this staff member has had “close contact” with children and teachers and therefore we believe that the risk to both children and teachers is extremely small. Close contact as defined by the CDC is contact for 15 minutes within 6 feet. Mask wearing also reduces the risk posed by an infected person. The last date of attendance for the staff member was last Thursday, December 10th. Please give us a call with any questions that you may have.

Dear Parents of School Age Children:
With Richardson Independent School District and Harmony Science Academy both beginning virtual learning this week, we would like to touch base with those parents who would be interested in having their student(s) attend Glen Oaks for those days before school re-opens for face to face learning. As these virtual processes are new to all of us, we are all on a learning curve so to speak. We want to communicate to our parents what we are capable of handling. We can provide a quiet place with limited distractions conducive to virtual learning. We can provide internet for tablets and computers and assistance in setting up computers and help in joining zoom and google meetings. We cannot be responsible for daily assignments and homework.
If you would like to bring your child(ren) to Glen Oaks for virtual learning until face-to-face learning in school begins on September 8th, we will need the following from our parents:
— Please call the office at 972-231-3135 to let us know that your child will be in attendance. Please do this by the end of the day Tuesday, August 18th.
— Please send your child to Glen Oaks with the following each day:
— Computer or tablet; headphones; all log-in instructions and passwords, etc.
— A face mask which he/she will wear during class times and indoor activities.
All school age children are required to wear masks at Glen Oaks.
— Pencil and paper for note taking, practice, etc.
— Any daily schedule pertinent to his/her day.
— A backpack or bag for safekeeping of all tablets and personal items.
Thank you for your understanding and support of Glen Oaks during this very different school year.

Dear Parents:
We have been advised today by a parent of a school age child of the child’s positive COVID-19 test result. The child’s last day of attendance was Friday, July 10th. We have been advised by licensing and the Dallas County Health Department that all children who have had direct and continued close contact with the person should quarantine for 14 days from the last day of exposure. We are consequently requiring all school age children to remain home until Monday, July 27th. We know this presents a hardship to our parents but we must follow all local guidelines to protect the safety of our children and all of our families. Thank you for your understanding.

Dear Parents:
We are happy to report that we have been informed that all other members of our COVID- affected family have been tested and are all negative for the virus. We are happy for the family and for all our families as well! The most excellent news is that our parent that has the virus is kicking back at it and is doing better each day. Thanks again for your support of our school.

Dear Parents:
We have learned that one of our parents has tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently quarantining at home. Her children attended one day last week, on Tuesday, and did not attend any other day. The children were in the PreK class and in School Age. All of the family members have been tested as well, and we expect results early this week, possibly Monday. We have notified the Dallas County Health Department and our state licensing authorities as required. We have already accomplished our deep cleaning and disinfection procedures and have had the benefit of the weekend days with everyone out of the building. Glen Oaks will be open on Monday as usual and we will keep everyone updated with any new information on the current situation, one that we felt would be inevitable when we reopened. Please continue to check the website for information, or feel free to call the office. We hold our affected Glen Oaks family and all of you in our hearts and want you to know that we will take every precaution to provide a safe place for your children.
May 16, 2020
Dear Parents:
The world is a different place today; we have many more things to navigate around and through than we have had previously. What we know today:
— Covid-19 is still with us; we are effectively at the same place we were when we closed the center;
— Dallas County still RECOMMENDS that we “Stay Home, Stay Safe,” although no order exists;
— There is not a vaccine for COVID-19 so we will be living with this virus and its risks until one is available;
— It is IMPOSSIBLE to physically distance and care for children at the same time;
— We are learning more every day about the impact of this virus on the population;
— Caregivers of young children assume great risk and are to be valued and appreciated;
— Caregivers deserve to be paid for their services and be paid in advance of care;
— Since we are still learning about COVID-19, NEW policies must be in place and may have to be revised.
All of the above being said, we have instituted new COVID-related policies for our center. In the forms section of our website there will be posted by Monday a Parental Agreement which will need to be signed in order for us to provide care. Please read this new Agreement before you bring your child(ren) on Tuesday, May 19th. If possible, please print and sign before arriving. We will have forms available for those who may not have access to a printer, and the forms can be signed at the center. Children who do not have a signed and dated Parental Agreement will not be allowed to stay with us; there can be no exceptions to this requirement.
Thank you so much for your support of our school, our teachers and our support staff. We look forward to seeing you and your children on Tuesday!
April 24, 2020
A very warm HELLO to all of our family at Glen Oaks and Glenwood. We hope all is well with all of our parents and children. We miss everyone very much and are as anxious as we can be to get back to what things were just a few weeks ago.
All of our staff at each center are still on our payroll and are, as far as we know, just as anxious to get back to work as we are. Day care centers right now are only permitted to watch children of first responders and other essential workers. So the big question is when can all children return to day care?? Although we cannot be sure, we feel we are beginning to get some hints to that answer. Just yesterday the City of Dallas extended the stay at home directive from April 30 to May 15. This indicates that May 15 might be the target date to try and get at least a portion of the work force in the DFW area back to work. All public schools have already been closed for the year, which means that people with children cannot return to work unless they have child care. This means we must be ready to reopen as soon as people are allowed to return to work and when state licensing says we can reopen. We will be ready to open as soon as we are allowed, whether this is May 15, June 1 or some other date. The point is that there are many signs, not just in Dallas but across the nation, that the reopening of the economy is coming soon.
When we reopen, it will effectively be like the summer months as school age kids will be with us all day. We do not yet know how field trips during the summer will be impacted. This is a new deal so we will go with the flow and be flexible in trying to make the decisions all of our parents will appreciate. Whatever we do we will make sure that all of the children will be happy to get back to being kids, learning, eating right, being loved, and playing with their friends.
Please continue to stay safe. Let your kids know all of us really miss them and that we should be able to see them very soon. If anyone has any question, feel free to either contact us on the web site or call either Donna or Ken.
March 31, 2020
Dear Glen Oaks families:
We miss you all and hope that everyone is safe and well. We are staying at home for the good of our families, our country and for the health care heroes who are battling COVID-19 under very trying conditions. We hope that most of you are able to stay home as well. We are closely watching the situation in New York City, as we have two daughters living there. As for our family in Dallas, we see each other infrequently and only from 6-10 feet away. Our hands are as clean as they have ever been … and we frequently clean surfaces in our home that are touched on a regular basis. We are hoping that more cities will follow the lead of New York City and Dallas by placing restrictions on our citizens so that we can ALL follow the recommendations of doctors and scientists in order to get ahead of this virus, rather than continuing to try to catch up with it’s progression. Experts are predicting that Dallas may be a new hot spot in the near future. Additionally, Governor Abbott has extended school closures statewide until May 4th. If you have any questions or need anything from us, please contact us through the website or at our email address: glenoakschool05@gmail.com. We know that we speak for all our staff when we say that we cannot wait until we can resume business and see all of you again! We will be in touch again soon. Stay safe.
March 23, 2020
Dear Glen Oaks Families:
Well … it has happened … Dallas County is in shelter in place mode. We hope that you all have been staying home as much as possible so that everyone remains safe. Now that we are in the current stay home mode, we wanted to let you know that all fees for child care have ceased. There will be no additional fees assessed to any account during the closure of the center. For those of you who may have paid for March or the first half of March, we can and will process refunds for any days already paid for while we are closed. In the alternative, we will apply any credits to your account to future charges when we re-open. If you need us to help you with a refund, please contact us through the website and we will get back to you. Parents who are receiving assistance with child care through the Child Care Group can go to childcaregroup.org for helpful and comforting information on how the Workforce is handling all pertinent attendance card and payment issues during this crisis time. We know that we speak for all Glen Oaks staff when we say we miss all of you and we miss going to work, but we are all convinced that this time away from everyone will help us flatten the curve and get back to business more quickly! Please feel free to reach out to us if you need help in any way. We are here to help if we can. We will post any updates or further information to the website for the duration of this time. Stay safe and healthy. See you soon!
March 17, 2020
Dear Parents:
Due to the escalating nature of the COVID-19 virus spread in our country, we have decided that for the health and safety of our children, staff and everyone’s extended families that we will close our schools today at 1:00 p.m. until further notice. This will allow us to feed all the children lunch before closing. All of the surrounding school districts have closed for these reasons and we care for our families and staff just as much as they do. We have had virtually no information and/or support from our licensing agency, Dallas County, the State of Texas or the leaders in Washington. It appears to us to be ludicrous to close schools and keep child care facilities open. We have substantially more than 50 children in each school all interacting with each other. We are now required to check temperatures without the benefit of the protective gear that other health professionals are allowed to use. We are unable to find food supplies in the proper amounts to effectively feed the children. We go to grocery stores and find no milk. If a thermometer stops working it takes hours to find a store with one in stock for purchase. The list goes on….
We have not come to this decision lightly or without much thought and agonizing. But in familiarizing ourselves with the plight of the other nations in the world that are ahead of us in the spreading of COVID-19, we are fools to ignore the wisdom of closing and sheltering in place. We applaud the communities and states that have been extremely proactive in mandating closures of schools and entire communities; we cannot understand how child care centers are not addressed in these closures, as children can often be carriers of the disease and have no visible symptoms. We are confident that the authorities will very soon mandate closures of all child care centers, with the exception of those for children of medical staff and first responders. We are simply closing a little earlier than those mandates because we feel it is the right thing to do in these new and uncertain circumstances.
We will post updates as they arise on this website…. we hope to see all of you again soon. Please stay safe — wash your hands properly, stop touching your face, and stay home as much as you can. Thank you for your understanding.
March 16, 2020
Dear Parents:
We have been instructed by our licensing authorities to implement the following procedures with regard to children and parents arriving at and leaving Glen Oaks for the day. Each child will need to be dropped off to a staff member at the front desk where the child’s temperature will be taken to ensure that he/she has no fever. Parents will not be allowed further than the front desk unless there is an important reason to accompany the child to the classroom. If it is necessary for the parent to accompany the child, then that parent’s temperature will be taken as well. Additionally, we request that parents wait in the front office for their children to be brought to them from the classroom. This practice, although cumbersome, will hopefully help us keep the center as clean and sanitized as possible. We have posted the email from Texas Health and Human Services at the front desk. Thanks for your cooperation.
March 16, 2020
Dear Parents:
We have consulted with the Dallas County Health Department regarding the testing of our staff member. We have been assured that our staff member has not met the criteria for testing based on her consultation with the doctor. They have assured us that the 2 week waiting period is purely precautionary. They also informed us that with our current enrollment numbers we are fine to continue to operate with standard sanitizing and cleaning procedures in place. Therefore, we will continue to remain open for business as usual until we receive new information or directives from national, state or local authorities. We will keep you informed on this website if anything should change. Please check the website daily for updates.
Please keep your children at home if they are ill. If they become ill or run fever at the center, we will keep them isolated and will require prompt pick-up by our parents. Help us keep our center open by teaching and enforcing correct hand washing procedures at home and help us try to teach social distancing and how to keep hands away from one’s face. (We know…..
almost impossible — but we can try!) Thanks in advance for your understanding and cooperation.
March 15, 2020
Hello Glen Oaks parents:
This is the first but probably not the last effort on our part to keep all of our customers up to date with all issues concerning COVID 19 as it pertains to our day care. This virus has created an extremely rare crisis affecting the entire United States and much of the world. We will at all times be totally transparent with everyone as we go through this together.
So far, day care centers have not been ordered to close. However, as more and more school districts are closed we believe that it is highly likely we will be ordered to close as well in order to help contain the spread of the virus. We will advise you and update you as we receive any new information.
Further, this weekend we have been advised that a staff member at Glen Oaks went to the emergency room at Medical City hospital with a fever. Her tests for the flu, strep and bronchitis were all negative. She was NOT tested for COVID 19 as she did not meet the criteria for testing (test kits are presently scarce). However, the doctors are treating her as if she has the virus by instructing her to remain in quarantine for 14 days. We intend to contact the Dallas Health Department tomorrow for further direction and are hopeful we can obtain an answer as to when this employee can obtain a test for the virus.
We are very grateful that COVID 19 does not seem to greatly threaten young children, but we are concerned about our older generation as this virus sweeps through our community. Please keep up to date with health advisories and take to heart
such recommendations as frequent hand washing, social distancing, and staying home when running a fever or otherwise sick.

Dear Parents:
The world is a different place today; we have many more things to navigate around and through than we have had previously. What we know today:
— Covid-19 is still with us; we are effectively at the same place we were when we closed the center;
— Dallas County still RECOMMENDS that we “Stay Home, Stay Safe,” although no order exists;
— There is not a vaccine for COVID-19 so we will be living with this virus and its risks until one is available;
— It is IMPOSSIBLE to physically distance and care for children at the same time;
— We are learning more every day about the impact of this virus on the population;
— Caregivers of young children assume great risk and are to be valued and appreciated;
— Caregivers deserve to be paid for their services and be paid in advance of care;

Stay safe.

Donna and Ken SharberGlen Oaks Parents:
We have been advised today by a parent of a school age child of the child’s positive COVID-19 test result. The child’s last day of attendance was Friday, July 10th. We have been advised by licensing and the Dallas County Health Department that all children who have had direct and continued close contact with the person should quarantine for 14 days from the last day of exposure. We are consequently requiring all school age children to remain home until Monday, July 27th. We know this presents a hardship to our parents but we must follow all local guidelines to protect the safety of our children and all of our families. Thank you for your understanding.
